THE JOURNEY

From failed SCP roleplay to learning Lua programming. The real story behind SCP Containment Trails

The SCP RP Attempt

2024

Started solo development of an ambitious SCP roleplay game. While the project ultimately failed, this period was crucial for learning the basics of game development and discovering my interests.

  • Learned basics of Roblox Studio
  • Discovered passion for sound design
  • Gained experience in map building
  • Deep dive into SCP Foundation lore
  • Realized the scope was too ambitious for a solo beginner
Skills Gained:
Roblox Studio Basics: 30%
Sound Design: 60%
Map Building: 40%

The Learning Break

Late 2024 - Mid 2025

After the failed SCP RP project, I took a complete break from Roblox Studio for almost a full year. This wasn't giving up, it was stepping back to reassess and plan a better approach.

  • Complete break from Roblox Studio development
  • Time to reflect on what went wrong
  • Researched better development practices
  • Planned a more realistic project scope
  • Maintained interest in SCP universe
Lesson Learned:

"Sometimes the best progress comes from stepping back and planning properly."

New Beginning: Containment Trails

Mid to Late 2025

Decided to return to game development with a completely different approach. Smaller scale, slower pace, and realistic timelines. Focus on quality over speed, even if the community has to wait.

  • Shifted from roleplay to strategic card game
  • Adopted slower, more methodical development pace
  • Started learning Lua programming properly
  • Not working every day, sustainable development
  • Built studio website and community presence
  • Open to collaborators joining the studio
Current Development:
Lua Programming: 5%
Game Design: 20%
Project Planning: 50%

The Delivery Goal

2026

Target release year for SCP Containment Trails. This timeline reflects the reality of solo development with a day job and the commitment to delivering a quality product rather than rushing something unfinished.

  • Fully functional card battle system
  • Complete PvE campaign mode
  • Balanced PvP dueling system
  • Complete tutorial and onboarding
  • Community features and Discord integration
  • Potential for studio expansion
Team Vision:

Currently solo development with a buddy helping with brainstorming. Open to others joining the studio and determined to deliver on the 2026 goal with the right team.

Why Share This Journey?

"Because game development isn't always about experienced teams. Sometimes it's about vision, determination, and the willingness to learn everything needed to make it happen."

This transparency isn't just honesty—it's proof that great things can come from humble beginnings. Every expert was once a beginner. Every successful game started with someone willing to learn, fail, and try again.

Quality Over Speed

Better to build it right than build it fast. 2026 gives time to learn and polish.

Learning-Driven

Every challenge is an opportunity to grow. Programming, design, project management, it's all learning.

Radical Transparency

Honest about progress, setbacks, and realistic timelines. No marketing fluff, just truth.
